Patient-centered care is influenced by multiple factors, many of which we have examined over the past year through our three-part series The Patient Experience Re/Imagined. During our final event, we will discuss the impact of patient safety on satisfaction, quality and outcomes, all key components of the overall patient experience. Patient safety encompasses medical errors, hospital acquired infections (HAIs) and slips and falls (accidents that happen while in the hospital). The statistics are startling: preventable medical errors are the third leading cause of death in the U.S and an estimated 1.7 million HAIs occur annually resulting in nearly 100,000 lost lives. The event will be held at the DuPont™ Corian® Design Studio, home to Patient Room 2020, a collaborative design for a next-generation inpatient care environment that strives to improve patient experiences and optimize caregiver performance. Tours of Patient Room 2020 will be given from 5:00 to 6:30 pm, preceding the panel discussion.
