Healthcare Rocks!

NYC Health Business Leaders > Healthcare Rocks!

Virtual Benefit Concert

On Thursday December 10th, 2020 we celebrated the heroes of COVID-19 with a stellar lineup of musical performances, candid conversations with frontline workers and insights from industry leaders. It was one of the BEST events we’ve ever held, and we raised $40,000 for 3 charities: Child Center of NY, Food Bank for NYC, and Vibrant Emotional Health.

Doctors on the frontline shared their stories

We were honored to speak with three NYC physicians who were on the COVID frontlines. Dr. Ben Gold, a cardiology fellow at Mount Sinai, described how the pandemic overwhelmed and transformed Elmhurst Hospital into something never seen before. Emergency Medicine physician Dr. Arabia Mollette depicted the health inequities at Brookdale University Hospital and likened the experience to being in a “medical war zone.” Dr. Ray Lorenzoni, a pediatric cardiologist at Montefiore, recalled the intense bond created between patients and physicians during a time of immense uncertainty. Their strength and courage were inspiring.

Inspiring stories from our healthcare leaders

Achieving telehealth equity

We discussed some inspiring initiatives from our healthcare leaders working to achieve telehealth equity. We heard from Dr. Rob Fields, SVP and CMO for Population Health at Mount Sinai, on how his team solved this equity issue through an initiative with Harlem’s DREAM Charter School. We also learned about about Gil Addo’s work with HealthTech4Medicaid (HT4M), a coalition dedicated to bridging the gap on existing inequities and better serving our most vulnerable communities. Gil is the CEO and co-founder of Rubicon MD, and was also a host of the evening along with NYCHBL President Bunny Ellerin.

Staying connected during COVID-19

Mike Cunnion, CEO of Remedy Health Media, shared how his team has stayed connected, from daily planking to Trivia Night to squat sub-groups in Slack. “We were all in this together. People showed up. They brought their whole selves to work. And that’s the way it should be.”

Honoring frontline responders

Sloan Gaon, CEO of PulsePoint, was one of the inspirations for Healthcare Rocks! Early in the pandemic, he created a petition to honor frontline responders with a ticker tape parade down NYC’s Canyon of Heroes. We’ll all be there when the time comes!

The Musicians

This was a concert after all… and the music was awesome!

Dr. Suedeh Ranjbar & Dr. Collin Brathwaite

Alicia Keys was smiling as these two NYU Langone – Long Island surgeons performed Good Job. Dr. Suedeh Ranjbar, a surgical resident, mesmerized us with her voice while Dr. Collin Brathwaite, Chairman of Surgery, accompanied beautifully on piano.

Adam Lieber & Varsha Subramaniam

We heard from this magical duo twice. Adam Lieber & Varsha Subramaniam, Mount Sinai fourth-year medical students, performed Rainbow (Kacey Musgraves) and closed the show with the classic This Little Light of Mine.

Gan Family Rocks

Pop-rock family band Gan Family Rocks (GFR) dazzled with their anthem “L.O.V.E.” You can hear more of their melodic music for all ages at the band’s website and expect a new album in Spring 2021.

LaGuardia Music Students

Students from famed LaGuardia High School performed an original composition by Bella Rosenblatt & Denielle Campbell. Also featuring Elijah FrechtmanAvery BloombergSophia ReyesIlana GrollmanAidan Herrera & Max Dolgin.

Thanks to our incredible event sponsors!
