It is no longer news that we are moving toward a more value-based system where financial incentives are aligned with the Triple Aim: improved quality of care; better health outcomes; and lower costs. The move away from fee-for-service (FFS) got another jolt on April 1st when CMS (Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services) began rolling out the Comprehensive Care for Joint Replacement Model, one of many programs CMS is implementing across the country including New York. The mandate is to shift 50% of payments away from FFS by 2018.

As the journey to transform healthcare to value-based care progresses, New York will need to overcome challenges unique to the market. We will explore the catalysts and road-blocks in NYC including the abundance of academic medical centers, diverse socio-economic population, fierce competitive environment and entrenched stakeholders.

The session will open with leaders from Oliver Wyman’s Health and Life Sciences practice who will provide insight into national and local trends. Then our panelists, all of whom are well-versed in the nuances of the New York market, will help us understand the dynamics necessary for real change to occur.
