Patient Room 2020 at the Dupont Corian Design Studio 49 West 23rd Street, b/w 5th and 6th Aves.
Patient-centered care is what most healthcare systems, institutions and providers aim to achieve. However, anyone who has spent time in a hospital as a patient or caregiver knows that we are still far from that ideal. Healthcare delivery systems are hindered by complex challenges that impact patient safety, satisfaction and outcomes.
A recent study in the Journal of Patient Safety estimated that as many as 440,000 people die each year as a result of a medical error in the hospital, making it the third-leading cause of death in America. Hospital acquired infections like MRSA and C-Diff continue to plague the system. During this program, we will explore steps physicians and hospitals are taking to address issues like infection control, technology integration, patient and family engagement and accident reduction.
We are proud to hold the program at Patient Room 2020 at the Dupont Corian Design Studio in Chelsea, a full-scale prototype of a completely re-imagined hospital room that addresses the multiple challenges faced by patients and caregivers in healthcare environments. Patient Room 2020 has garnered national and international attention since its opening in mid-July and been featured in numerous publications including Fortune, Wired and WSJ.
